- CV with internships and work experience
- Certified or official academic transcripts
- Confirmation of award, if your certificate isn't issued yet
- Course descriptions, if an institution asks for them
- English test results, if your institution requires them
- Name-change documents, if your name has changed
- Top-up degree documents, if you upgraded a diploma
Before you leave campus
- Visit your registrar or exams office.
- Request several certified copies of your transcript.
- Ask how to have transcripts sent directly to an institution or NZQA later.
- Keep digital scans of every document.
- Save your registrar's email address. You'll need it.

Do I need an IQA to study in New Zealand?+
Usually not. Universities and institutes normally assess your qualification themselves when you apply. Check your course's entry requirements.
So when would I need one?+
Mostly when you work. For example, work visa skill rules generally require an IQA where an overseas qualification is below a Level 7 bachelor's degree. Some employers and registration bodies also ask for one.
Why get my transcripts now?+
It's far easier while you're near your school. Requesting documents from abroad later is slower and can delay an IQA, because NZQA's clock only starts once your file is complete.
I have an HND. Does that change anything?+
Possibly. Diplomas and HNDs are more likely to need an IQA for work visa purposes. A free review will tell you what applies.
